Jannie Breedt
Jannie Breedt is the Founder and Managing Director of Kooi Beds. The former Springbok Captain prides himself with 19+ years of experience in the bedding industry. Jannie is a passionate sportsman, with an impressive professional rugby career of 19 years. As a high-performance athlete understands the importance of a good night’s rest on a supportive bed.
Jannie’s career took off in 1980, where he played Provincial Rugby on a senior level. Three years later he joined the SA rugby team, and in 1986 he played four Test Matches against New Zealand. In 1986 he was selected as rugby captain. During 1992, Jannie played his last official test match in SA. After this, he spent ten years playing rugby in Italy.
Furthermore, he also played for Australia for one year. In 1999 Jannie retired from the sport. He once again relocated to Italy where he spent three years as a rugby coach. In 2007 Jannie returned to South Africa where he founded Universal Bedding.
Zaach Smith
Zaach Smith is the South African Agent of Kooi Beds. As the founder and owner of The Mattress Warehouse, Zaach has extensive knowledge of the bedding industry. Additionally, his knowledge of the Mattress Industry is broad and comprehensive with extensive experience ranging from logistics, sales, E-Commerce and mattress design.
Additionally, Zaach is passionate about customer service and marketing. Furthermore, he is an avid entrepreneur and businessman. He built up various mattress companies, and in 2007 he founded The Mattress Warehouse in Nelspruit. Today The Mattress Warehouse is one of the biggest and most successful online mattress sales platforms in South Africa.
Due to his vast experience in the mattress industry, Zaach noticed that traditional foam mattresses experienced significant unwanted sagging. He was driven to find a solution to this problem. In 2006 he teamed up with Jannie Breed. The two worked tirelessly to resolve the sagging mattress problem. During 2016, Jannie and Zaach discovered the solution, to the sagging issue. It was Pure Foam. So, they set out to develop the perfect Pure Foam Mattress Range.
Zaach is a family man and enjoys spending time in nature in his free time.
Phillip Klopper
Phillip is the Managing Director of Kooi Beds, Taiwan. For the past 18 months, he served as the Head of Marketing at the Mattress Warehouse. Furthermore, he has been closely involved in the development of the Mattress Warehouse E-Commerce website. His involvement with world-renowned brands such as Hyundai and Ford equipped him with the expertise to excel in creating brand awareness and product strategy for the Mattress Warehouse. Additionally, Phillip’s devotion to creative problem solving and his extensive experience in the mattress industry contributes significantly to the success of The Mattress Warehouse.
In his free time, Phillip loves to travel the world, but his favourite activity is to spend time in the Kruger National Park with his wife, Verona. The Couple loves the great outdoors; to them, few things beat watching the big five at sunrise or enjoying the scenic views of the Park at sunset. Apart from this Phillip is also a 5-Times World Karate Champion, he received Springbok National Colours for 8 years in a row.
Esmerelda Gerenger
Esmerelda Gerenger is the Managing Director of Kooi Beds, New Zealand. She has extensive experience in Senior Sales Administration Industry and served as Manager at well-known brands such as Mercedes-Benz and H2O South Africa. For the past five years, Esmerelda served as the Senior Administrative Manager at The Mattress Warehouse South Africa, where she offers Administrative Support to the Sales Division. During this time, she gained extensive knowledge of the Mattress and Bedding Retail Industry.
Apart from her professional career, Esmerelda is an avid athlete – she regularly works out in the gym and jogs outdoors. Esmerelda is a lover of nature and adores fishing trips with her husband Adam and her four-year-old son, Harry. She enjoys the peaceful solitude of her family and nature.
